We will talk to you about any issues you may be having and what led you to come and see us. This might mean having to talk about difficult experiences you’ve been dealing with, and talking about any previous experiences with mental health professionals.
If you have been seen by a CAMHS team in the past it might be frustrating to have to talk about those experiences again with us. We want to make sure that we have an accurate history of your care.
During your assessment we will also talk to your family, and sometimes we may need talk to anyone else you would feel helpful. This may include your school and your GP.
During assessment we may discover that the issues you’re dealing with are quite complex. If this happens, we may feel that you would benefit from extra support from a team that are experts in dealing with the issues that are affecting you.
When your assessment is complete, we will send a report to you, your parents or carers and your GP. This report will contain our suggestions about how best to keep supporting you in the future. This could be ongoing help from the same CAMHS team, referral to a specialist team, support from another professional, or discharge back to the care of your GP.
If you are unable to attend appointments
We want to make sure that you and your family get the support you need, so it is important that you attend your appointments with us.
If you are unable to come to an appointment, please let us know as soon as you can.
