We provide 1-2-1 or group coaching sessions to help you to find your way around healthcare databases, e-books and e-journals. To arrange a session, contact the library on 020 3228 6141 or email library@slam.nhs.uk.

Introduction to searching Medline and other healthcare databases (HDAS)

Need to do a literature search? Book on LEAP to come along to these free sessions and pick up some simple tips for effective searching of databases such as Psychinfo, Medline, Embase or CINAHL. These sessions cover the basics of planning and executing database literature searches, and saving and exporting references.

More Advanced Literature Searching Using Databases (HDAS)

If you want to get even more out of your searching, why not attend our more advanced workshop? These sessions are suitable for searchers who already have some experience and want to develop their skills further. Content includes use of subject thesaurus, proximity searching, refining search results, and combining and deduplicating results from more than one database.

eLearning resources

BMJ Learning contains over 900 interactive learning modules, across over 70 speciality areas, to assist in the CPD and postgraduate training for doctors and other healthcare professionals. It can accessed via NHS OpenAthens login.

Virtual Faculty Collection A free online facility, keeping clinical educators up to date with developments and trends in healthcare education. There is access to a range of ejournals and ebooks. It can accessed via NHS OpenAthens login.

eLearning Repository is a search and discovery platform for eLearning objects and resources aimed at those involved in education, training and development. NHS staff can login to view more resources.

Social Care Institute for Excellence’s (SCIE) elearning resources Free social care elearning materials commissioned by the DOH and other agencies. It can accessed via NHS OpenAthens login.

Internet for Nursing and Internet for Psychology are free online tutorials to help students develop their internet research skills.
