Michelle McNary is a film maker who has had experience of using mental health services. Her film, published here in two parts, is a powerful study of living with mental illness. The film explores the concept of recovery and what it means through the personal experiences and observations of four people who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Thank you to Maudsley Charity who supported the making of this film, and to the people who kindly agreed to share their thoughts in the film: Gordon, James, Ben and Dolly. Most of all, thank you to Michelle for her hard work in bringing the film together.
You can find out more about the background to the film in the booklet Recovery Journeys: stories of coping with mental health problems.
Dr Jerome Carson, consultant clinical psychologist, was instrumental in getting the Recovery project off the ground. In the following short film he explains more about the concept of recovery and what it actually means for people who use mental health services.
