This study is looking to better understand clinicians and service users’ views of the most helpful duration of psychological interventions for psychosis and paranoia.
We are looking for volunteers to share their thoughts and opinions on what factors should influence the duration of psychological therapy.

We are looking for people who are:

  • over the age of 18
  • have received a psychological intervention for psychosis or paranoia in the last 2 years.
  • with no changes in the last 3 months to any medication they might take for mental health problems.


The study involves:

  • A 5-minute questionnaire 
  • A 1-hour focus group

Will I be compensated for my time? We can offer £20 as compensation for your time.

Inclusion Criteria

Potential participants will be screened and selected to participate by researchers based on the following inclusion criteria:

Clinicians:

1. Qualified healthcare professional with at least 2 years of experience working with clients with psychosis and/or paranoia. Professionals eligible include staff members from different disciplines such as clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers and nurses.

2. Experience of delivering psychological interventions for the target population.

Service users:

1. Aged 18 years or older.

2. Have direct experience of a relevant psychological intervention in the last 2 years. This is defined as eight or more consecutive sessions with a trained therapist, either in an individual or group setting, for the purpose of alleviating symptoms arising from psychosis or paranoia.

3. If on psychotropic medication, then stable on that medication for at least the last 3 months. 
 

Exclusion Criteria

Researchers will also assess eligibility of the potential participants according to the following exclusion criteria:

Service users:

1. Currently in an acute psychotic state.

2. Currently receiving a relevant psychological intervention or having done so in the last month.

Clinicians:

None.
