Carolyn Hodgman, Head of Digital Learning named as HSJ Digital Leader of the Year finalist

We’re proud to share that Carolyn Hodgman, Head of Digital Learning in our Trust, has been shortlisted as a finalist for this year’s Digital Leader of the Year in the HSJ Digital Awards 2025.
Carolyn was shortlisted for her outstanding leadership across our Digital Learning team with several of her colleagues working together to put her forward for this award. Her team feels strongly that her strive for inclusivity and adaptability to change makes her an incredibly strong leader, worthy of national recognition.
Remi Teal, Digital Learning Solutions Manager, said: “We decided to apply for the Heath Service Journal Digital Leadership Award for our team leader Carolyn Hodgman because it's the highest profile recognition for healthcare digital innovators. We identified the previous winners as her peers and wanted to recognise Carolyn's thought leadership and innovative approach in this prestigious national forum.”
Carolyn’s team have noted that she is always looking for new ways to improve their impact and efficiency. One example of this is the recent migration to Microsoft Azure cloud computing, moving digital applications, data and infrastructure from one cloud platform to another. This will save the Trust a substantial amount of money each year and contribute toward net zero goals. She is always looking for ways to improve quality and workflow and has led the introduction of innovative AI tools including CoPilot AI office assistance and Synthesia text to video creator.
Remi added: “As a team, we see evidence that being a woman in NHS leadership isn't always easy. We've witnessed moments when Carolyn's words have been repeated back to her as someone else's ideas, and her extensive years of experience of successful leadership and management across various organisations along with her high level of technical expertise has been downplayed.
Even in challenging and busy times, Carolyn is inclusive and approaches leadership in an empathetic way, supporting our diverse team through training and personal development which allows us to contribute our best efforts at work.”
Remi concluded: “Carolyn's clear vision and leadership makes the Online Learning Team a great place to work. Her structured approach to innovation and change is inspiring and we're thrilled that she's made the shortlist.”
We wish Carolyn the best of luck and a massive congratulations from us on her shortlisting.
