Research, Education and Training

Research

We are proud of our unique clinical and academic partnership with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King’s College London - Europe’s largest centre for research and post-graduate education in psychiatry, psychology, basic and clinical neuroscience.  Working together means up to date research is translated directly into better treatment locally, nationally and internationally.  Many of the consultants who work with our Older Adults services are researchers at the Institute.

Education and training

In order to translate research into everyday practice, education and training plays a crucial role in ensuring that we deliver safe and effective high quality care by:

- Making our staff training a priority

- Developing our senior clinical and academic staff to provide high quality education and training

As a Directorate, we want service users, families, carers, local agencies including GP Practices, national mental health agencies and charities to engage and work with us.  We are able to offer learning and training opportunities to our service, users, careers and families and encourage them to get involved with staff training and speaking at events.

Our national Dementia Training Centre offers a range of courses from face to face training programmes, tailored to the meet the needs of organisations, free e-learning packages designed by experts, to a Master’s degree offering specialist dementia training with the Institute of Psychiatry.

Our trainers have a wealth of experience in the field of dementia care and also work as senior practitioners providing direct care.

We understand that the quality of the service we provide is a reflection of the quality of the professional knowledge, skills, attitudes, commitment, motivation, and ability of the staff who are employed. In this way, we aspire to reach excellence in clinical practice and research through learning and development.
