Background

Professor Fiona Gaughran is Director of Research and Development at the Trust, where she is the Lead Consultant for the National Psychosis Service. She is also a Professor of Physical Health and Clinical Therapeutics in Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London. Professor Gaughran is a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Physicians in London, Edinburgh and Dublin and a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

As part of her role, Professor Gaughran is responsible for implementing new, evidence-based approaches to help people who have psychotic illnesses that have been resistant to treatment. She has a keen interest in the physical health of people with psychosis and has published widely in this field.
Her research interests are largely focused on the interface between physical health and severe mental illness and on the management of psychosis.   

Professor Gaughran leads the Applied Informatics Theme of the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration in South London. She has published over 150 papers and book chapters and has co-edited books on ‘Treatment Refractory Schizophrenia’, ‘Physical Health in Schizophrenia’ and the ‘Maudsley Practice Guidelines on Physical Health Conditions in Psychiatry’. Professor Gaughran is named in the Web of Science “Highly-cited” list, reflecting multiple papers ranking in the top 1% by citations globally for her field.
