Her clinically-related research includes major involvement in the development and evaluation of novel psychological interventions for patients with a range of disorders relevant to neurology and neuropsychiatry. She is continuing the dissemination of findings from the CODES Trial of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for adults with dissociative seizures, in which the Trust played a major role.

She is currently involved in studies funded by the NIHR HTA scheme, with other colleagues to evaluate complex interventions for people with motor neuron disease and functional movement disorder, each within a randomised controlled trial. She is continuing work to investigating cognitive and behavioural change in people with motor neuron disease.

Background

Professor Goldstein is a Fellow of The British Psychological Society, and a member of the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists. She is currently a member of the International League Against Epilepsy’s Psychology Taskforce. She is a Founding member and currently a  Director of the Functional Neurological Disorder Society. She has been an invited speaker at many international conferences.

She contributed to the initial and revised consensus criteria for the diagnosis of frontotemporal cognitive and behavioural syndromes in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and the NINDS Common Data Elements for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.  For 16 years she ran popular and highly-rated post-qualification training courses for clinical neuropsychologists in the UK to facilitate their skill development. Work undertaken in the fields of epilepsy and motor neuron disease has been cited in NICE guidelines.

Education & Training

After obtaining her PhD at University College London (UCL), Professor Goldstein trained as a clinical psychologist at the Institute of Psychiatry. She has undertaken clinical work and research related to the neuropsychological and more general psychological aspects of neurological disorders and their comorbidities for over 30 years.
