Biography

Since completing a doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of East London Andre has worked for many years with people who struggle with severe and complex mental health difficulties. Initially he worked in London in adult mental health settings, mostly with people experiencing psychosis and personality difficulties, in both community and inpatient settings.

He then lived and worked in Sydney for several years where he first held a managerial role in a psychological therapies clinic at the University of Sydney, and then moved on to work in and subsequently lead an adult DBT service in the public health system. As part of this latter role he also led the development of a new service to provide brief, DBT-informed crisis interventions for people presenting to emergency departments following self-injury or a suicide attempt.

Andre has worked at the CAMHS DBT Service at the Maudsley since 2014.

Research

Andre’s current research projects include a study of the effectiveness of a group intervention for parents and carers of dysregulated adolescents, an investigation into the experiences of young people who exit therapy earlier than expected, a study of DBT delivered as teletherapy, and a pilot of a novel intervention for parents and carers of children with emotion dysregulation.
