Information for professionals

Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) is a new government initiative to help increase access to mental health support for children and young people and is part of the National Children and young people’s Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP IAPT).

The MHST initiative supplements the existing support within schools. We work collaboratively with schools, taking a ‘whole school approach’, involving working collaboratively with schools to address the mental health and emotion wellbeing of pupils.

We are an early intervention service offering a range of evidence based interventions, including guided self-help for children and young people who are experiencing low mood, anxiety and challenging behaviour.

Guided Self Help is a low intensity treatment for mild to moderate mental health difficulties as part of a stepped care model. The interventions provide strategies to help with low mood, anxiety, stress and other common mental health or wellbeing difficulties. Our services can be delivered face to face in schools, online or by phone.

Another important part of our work is a range of workshops and groups on a variety of topics to reach a wider audience of children, young people, parents and education staff. During schools closures and schools now re-opening we offer transition to secondary school workshops and groups.

The Transition Back to School workshops for primary and secondary schools are helpful to transition back into school. We also offer training for education staff and offer staff wellbeing workshops. We also offer specialist screenings and referrals, and consultations with school staff.
