South London and Maudsley celebrates long serving staff

Long service awards in Ruskin Park

South London and Maudsley staff have been presented with long service awards at two sun-soaked ceremonies.

Chief Executive David Bradley and Chair Norman Lamb presented Trust staff who have worked for the NHS for 25 years or more, with a trophy, badge and certificate in the Ruskin Park bandstand on July 13. A ceremony was also held in the leafy grounds of Bethlem Royal Hospital in Bromley on July 18.

More than 100 members of staff have received awards.

David Bradley, Chief Executive, said: "So much has changed in the NHS – we have made huge progress in prevention, treatment and technology. We have also come on leaps and bounds in areas such as equality and staff support.

“On behalf of the Trust and the wider NHS I want to say a huge thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you have done and continue to do for the NHS and for South London and Maudsley."

Sir Norman Lamb, Chair said: "It is a fantastic achievement to have dedicated a quarter of a century or more to the NHS. Your work really does make a huge difference.

“Most, if not all jobs in the NHS can be challenging at times, but it really is worth it when you see what a difference your efforts make to the people and communities we serve."

Yvonne Hale was among those collecting her long service award.

“What has changed...I feel the main changes are diversity – the team is more diverse and inclusive,” said Yvonne.

Sonia Preddie trained at the Maudsley School of Nurses as a student nurse. She said: “During my training I fell in love with community psychiatric nursing and following qualifying in 1993, I got my first job in the community as a CPN.

“Mental Health Nursing is so diverse. If you enjoy challenges, rewarding challenges, mental health nursing offers all this, and more.”
