Coronavirus: Find our Covid-19 information and updates
Our Council of Governors acts as a link between service users, carers, staff, the general public and the Trust's Board of Directors.
They support the Board of Directors in setting the long-term vision for our organisation, and hold the non-executive directors to account for the actions of the Board. Our Board of Directors has a duty to consult, and listen to the views of, the Council of Governors.
As a black male mental health survivor, detained and diagnosed with schizophrenia, with
several detentions alongside my son to Maudsley. As, a mental health practitioner and
advocate for race equality I have personal motivation for change, liberation, and governance that addresses the authentic racialised lived realities of modern South London mental health systems. To bring fate to those who feel displaced or deceased, to give power through the PCREF, advance choice document and mental health use of forces, to those onwards, to those who feel their heritage marginalised. To confront the fear of working across historical mistrusting boundaries, Police, mental health professionals and the legal professional. I feel privileged to use my academic and management skills, MA, PhD, professional qualifications, MBA, MBE and my mental health qualifications aligned to my lived experience in working with Mental Health Trusts, Integrated Boards, Advisory Groups and PCREF groups. The skills of negotiation, advocacy, project planning, local, national and information governance. More specifically my specialist research, activism and developmental skills in developing a lived experience epistemological framework to governance, equity and coproduction in strategies, performance measures, matrix change and reporting. I have over forty years’ experience of SLAM, as patient, patient visitor, sectioning, commissioning and managing a range statutory social work, voluntary and recently the Culturally appropriate peer support and Advocate services. As a user of cognitive, treatment and social care, as a community resident using Fanon to Mosaic House, I am a survivor of hope.
