About the CAMHS Nursing Academy

The CAMHS Nursing Academy began as a Quality Improvement (QI) initiative to address the training and development needs of CAMHS nurses at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

It was created and developed by a small group of nursing staff in early 2021, and was supported by the QI team, and the CAMHS management team.

The purpose of the CAMHS Nursing Academy is to provide a forum for all CAMHS nurses to explore ideas and grow their skills throughout their career, and to share this knowledge with others.

It encompasses a virtual space for students and nursing leads to come together to support one another. It also exists to highlight and promote the opportunities available within a nursing career for research and service development.

Our mission statement

Nurses strive every day to provide the best possible care for children, young people and their families. They deliver the care with compassion, creativity and engage at a humanistic level.

They skilfully navigate front-line engagement,  it is essential time is given to develop skills, evaluate practice and ensure nurses well being is placed high on the agenda.

This forum provides a space for all CAMHS nurses to explore and maximise their individual developmental pathway, whilst recognising the current skills, practice and the importance of sharing this knowledge across the directorate.

Together we stand; with compassion and training we will grow.
