The first assessment with your child

We will talk to you about any issues your child and your family may be having. We may also need talk to anyone else you would feel helpful; this may include your child’s school, GP, and other CAMHS teams they have been seen by.

If your child has been seen by a CAMHS team in the past, we may have to discuss their previous treatment with you. It might be frustrating to have to talk about those experiences again with us; however, we need to do this to make sure that we have an accurate history of your child’s care.

During assessment we may discover that the issues your child is dealing with are quite complex. If this happens, we may recommend referring them to another specialist team for additional support.

At the end of the assessment, we will send a report to you, and your child’s GP. This report will contain our suggestions about how best to provide ongoing support. This could be further appointments with the same CAMHS team, referral to a specialist team, support from another professional, or discharge back to the care of your GP.

If you are unable to attend appointments

We want to make sure that you and your family get the support you need, so it is important that you attend your appointments with us.

If you or your child are unable to come to an appointment, please let us know as soon as you can.
