Background

Joel trained in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) at Royal Holloway University in 2018. Prior to this, Joel trained as an occupational therapist and graduated in 2011. He has worked in numerous senior occupational therapist roles in the Trust including inpatient psychosis, eating disorders, forensic mental health and anxiety and depression. Joel has worked as a cognitive behavioural therapist at the Croydon Talking Therapies services before gaining a position at ADRU as a dual role in CBT and occupational therapy. In this time Joel developed a CBT informed group program at ADRU.

He is now enjoying his role as a full time CBT therapist. His experience has shown him that key to successful recovery is helping residents rediscover their values and then using this as a springboard to delivering high quality evidenced based interventions. Joel recognises that being able to help and support residents reclaim their lives from their anxiety disorder through treatment is a privilege.
