Background

Professor MacCabe qualified in medicine in 1995 at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, having obtained an Intercalated BSc in Psychology and Basic Medical Sciences at University College London in 1992.

He trained in psychiatry at the Bethlem and Maudsley Hospitals from 1997 to 2000, including periods in the National Psychosis Unit from 1997 to 1998 and 2001 to 2002, while pursuing a parallel academic career at the Institute of Psychiatry Psychology and Neuroscience King’s College London.

In 2004 he obtained a clinical training fellowship from the Medical Research Council, obtaining an MSc in epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2006, and a PhD in 2008. He was appointed Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist at the National Psychosis Service in 2005 and divides his time equally between his academic and clinical work. He serves as a trustee on the board of the mental health charity SANE.
