Moving in and moving forward: All wards now relocated to New Douglas Bennett House
Over the past two weeks, the final four wards – Leo unit, Eden, Luther King, and Rosa Parks - have successfully moved into their new space, New Douglas Bennett House.
We’re thrilled to see the teams and patients settled in, bringing the space quickly to life and delivering exceptional care across brand new, state of the art facilities.
We spoke to staff members on Leo ward about the move. One person said: “It’s such a beautiful place. The patients really love it here – it’s still a hospital environment but it’s a more modern and comfortable for them.”
Staff are receiving great feedback from the patients on the ward with one patient asking if they could come back as a “paying guest” post discharge.
Gloria Namubiru Ward Manager said: “In terms of facilities, everything is brand new and means that we can function as we should be without any concerns about the spaces around us.”
The teams will continue to get comfortable in their new spaces and we will be back to see them soon and find out how they are settling in.
Emma Porter, Lambeth Service Director said: “The move has brought a renewed sense of energy, motivation and optimism across the Directorate. This transition will bring system-wide improvements in care, patient experience, staff recruitment and retention, and we look forward to strengthening our partnership working in the new environment. We will also be marking our time at Lambeth Hospital with a closing event to say thank you and goodbye to the space we worked in for such a long time.”
An extraordinary amount of work from teams working all across the Trust went into these moves.
Chief Operating Officer Ade Odunlade said: “I want to acknowledge the professionalism, compassion, flexibility and teamwork shown by colleagues across clinical, operational, estates, facilities, project and support teams throughout this process. It is wonderful to hear that all patients transferring to NDBH have now arrived safely. Achievements like this are only possible because of the collective effort of so many people over many months. Thank you for your dedication, resilience and unwavering focus on providing safe, high-quality care for our patients throughout this transition.”
