Understanding your child’s time with us
Step One: Your request for support
When we receive your child/young person’s referral, one of our team will aim to contact you or your child within 28 days to find out more about your referral. This will usually be via a telephone contact.
Step Two: Support Starts Here
During this first contact, we will take the time to understand more about your child’s needs, guide you to useful information and support services, and offer advice, including how to access help in an emergency.
You and your child will also be able to access CAMHS digital resources*, which provide helpful information and signpost you to a range of groups and webinars related to your concerns. We will allow some time for you to access these resources, seek support and act on the advice provided before moving to the next step.
For some families and young people, this support, advice and signposting may be enough, and the journey may end here by mutual agreement.
Step Three: Offering More Support
We will review your progress and carry out a detailed assessment, which may involve input from schools and other professionals. This will enable us to agree whether further help is needed and if so, together, we’ll create a personalised care plan tailored to your child’s needs.
For some families and young people, the journey may also end at this stage, by mutual agreement if specialist treatment is not required.
Step Four: Treatment, Review and Moving On
Your child will receive evidence-based treatment, with regular reviews from their care team. We’ll also work with you to develop a discharge plan with tips on staying well in the future.
At each stage, we will inform and explain how and where the appointments will be conducted prior to meeting with us, so that you and your child will know what to expect.
