National QI Week: Chief Nurse Vanessa Smith shares her thoughts on huddle boards

To celebrate National QI week, Katie Walker, Principal Quality Improvement Lead spoke to our Chief Nurse Vanessa Smith about how the executive leadership team use improvement huddles every Monday.

Vanessa shared how using Quality Improvement tools has helped to take away some of the emotion and personal attachment that can be tied to improvement ideas to really focus in on the importance of problem solving.

This methodology and openness to change has helped teams to see improve the care we deliver to patients and service users.

Vanessa said: “For example, in one of our clinical teams who have spent a lot of time thinking about their practices in the way that they work as a team in Lambeth. This is a real example of how they come together in a multi-professional way but also as a clinical operation group of staff to really make some changes that have delivered the action they required.

We’ve been really impressed by the way that the leadership team have executed this piece of work. It is a lovely example of the directorate leadership team coming together and really seeing the direct benefit of this for patients.”
