I’ve been at SLaM for three years as a nurse on the Eating Disorders Inpatient Unit at Bethlem Hospital. I work with patients who have eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia and diabulimia (which is a combination of diabetes and bulimia). 

2020 is the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, a time to reflect on the skills, commitment and expert clinical care that nurses and midwives bring, and the impact they make on the lives of so many. With this in mind, we're interviewing some of the nurses at SLaM to showcase the wide variety of nursing roles.

There is a lot of stigma associated with caring, particularly being a mental health carer. I supported my mother, who had psychosis, for 18 years until she passed away a few months ago. I also support my two brothers who have autism who live nearby.
