Welcome new Resident Doctors!
This week, we were delighted to welcome a new intake of resident doctors to South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) and the Maudsley Training Programme. 100 new and returning doctors are joining or rotating through the programme and SLaM, from foundation year, through to GP trainees, to core and higher residents.
On Wednesday, the new intake was welcomed at an induction day held at the Wolfson Lecture Theatre, IoPPN, with opening remarks from Dr Derek Tracy, Chief Medical Officer, Professor Ed Bullmore, Regius Professor of Psychiatry and Head of the School of Academic Psychiatry at the Kings Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), and Dr Ruth Cairns, Director of Postgraduate Psychiatric Training.
The event provided an opportunity for resident doctors to meet one another and hear from key medical leaders. We are delighted to welcome such a diverse and talented group of doctors from across the UK and around the world to SLaM.
The Maudsley Training Programme has a proud and longstanding reputation for developing outstanding academic and clinical psychiatrists, as well as future medical leaders.
Many alumni have remained within SLaM and partner organisations, while others have gone on to lead services nationally and internationally.
Today, the Maudsley Training Programme remains the largest psychiatry training programme in Europe and is recognised worldwide as a centre of excellence.
Professor Derek Tracy, Chief Medical Officer at SLaM, said:
