Maudsley Health (UAE)

'Maudsley Health' is a collaboration between South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (the Maudsley), the oldest psychiatric institution in the world and MACANI Medical Centre, an Abu Dhabi based organization set up to bring the highest quality mental health services to the Middle East.

It is the brand name that South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust has authorised MACANI to use to indicate the commercial partnership with the Trust. MACANI is the employer and manager of the staff and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust provides clinical quality assurance.

This collaboration began in 2013 with a child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS) opening in Abu Dhabi in 2015 followed by Adult Mental Health Services in 2017. In 2018, Maudsley Health began providing services in Dubai in collaboration with Emirates Health Services.

Abu Dhabi

The services provided are comprehensive and include particular strengths in eating disorders and neurodevelopmental disorders. Access to specialist services at the Maudsley in the UK is also facilitated if necessary. The services provided in Abu Dhabi are:

 

  • Child and adolescent mental health
  • Eating disorders
  • Adult mental health, including couples therapy and dialectic behaviour therapy


 

Dubai

In Dubai, Maudsley Health works in partnership with Emirates Health Services (previously the Ministry of Health and Prevention) to support the development of the Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital in Dubai. This is the largest psychiatric hospital in the region and Emirates Health Services' only hospital dedicated to mental health provision. The hospital has JCI Accreditation and is structured into clinical academic groups (CAGs) which bring together people who have expertise with a specific patient group, to deliver specialist services.

The following CAGs are in place at the Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital:

  • Mental health of old age
  • Learning disability
  • Addictions
  • Forensic


 

Research

Maudsley Health is committed to continuing Henry Maudsley’s vision of translating cutting edge research directly into clinical practice. The service in the UAE is supported in this vision by being research active locally and by having additional experts from London visit the UAE. Teaching and training is delivered in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
