Professor Derek Tracy appointed as Chief Medical Officer
South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust are pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Derek Tracy as our new Chief Medical Officer.
Professor Tracy will join us later this year from West London NHS Trust. With a career spanning more than two decades, he has a particular interest in the role that organisational culture has on improving patient care and health outcomes. His PhD was in relational interpersonal elements that underpin integrated care and services and he remains an active researcher and educator, including as an honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience.

Derek’s reputation for clinical excellence and leadership will be invaluable as we deliver our strategy to provide outstanding mental health care and ensuring South London and Maudsley continues to go from strength to strength as a great place to work and for patients, carers and our community to receive care and treatment.
Professor Tracy said:
I am hugely excited to be returning to South London and Maudsley. The organisation had a huge personal impact on my learning and development as a psychiatrist. I have many friends and colleagues in the Trust, and in lots of ways it feels like a journey back home. I have no doubt of the significant challenges we all face in the coming years, but also of the outstanding people who do an incredible job of supporting the people who use the services at the Trust.
David also extended his thanks to Dr Docherty for stepping in to provide cover during a pivotal time whilst recruitment for the permanent Chief Medical Officer took place. He said, “Dr Docherty’s tireless work, dedication to her team and her focus on our patients have ensured we have been able to continue to provide high quality care to those who rely on us.”
