Children’s Mental Health Week: Malik’s story
As part of Children’s Mental Health Week, we’re pleased to share a powerful video from one of our service users, Malik, who has kindly chosen to speak about his experiences with mental health and the support he received.
This video has been created as part of the Mental Health in Support Team pilot, part of the wider Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework. The pilot is led locally by David Grafto and Kim De Haan, focusing on cultural competency, community partnership, youth engagement and reducing racial inequalities in access and experience.
Malik’s story is at the heart of this work, sharing his lived experience to bring a powerful and human perspective to the pilot. His story helps other young people feel seen, understood and encouraged to seek support when they need it.
The project aims to create a mental health support system that is fairer, more inclusive, and truly responsive to the communities it serves.
We are incredibly grateful to Malik for sharing his story with us. Please take a few minutes to watch the video and reflect on the difference our services make every day to young people across South London.
