SLaM service shortlisted for Seni Lewis Award

The winner of this year’s Seni Lewis Award will be revealed on Monday and a team from the Trust is one of the three finalists.

Our NHS111 Option 2/S.136 Police Advice Line service has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Seni Lewis Award.

Created in memory of Olaseni ‘Seni’ Lewis, the Seni Lewis Award honours initiatives that reduce restrictive practices, improve crisis response, and involve patients and carers in shaping services. The 2025 award is held in partnership with the Lewis Family, the Trust and the Metropolitan Police Service.

This year, for the first time, it is being hosted by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. The award will be presented as part of the College’s President’s Lecture, hosted by SLaM consultant psychiatrist and Royal College President Lade Smith.

The NHS 111/ S.136 Police Advice Line is a dedicated 24/7 service for police officers in South London, offering expert advice on managing individuals in mental health crisis under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act, directing them to safe places or services. While the police line is specific, the general public can access urgent mental health help via the main NHS 111 service (dial 111 or go online to 111.nhs.uk) and pressing option 2 for mental health, or calling our main crisis line at 0800 731 2864 (Option 1) for direct support.

Bibi Doolaree, Service Manager, South London Partnership, said: “Being a finalist for the Seni Lewis Award is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we work together to transform mental health care.

Our NHS 111 Mental Health service is breaking barriers and creating hope for people in crisis. This recognition inspires us to keep pushing boundaries and delivering care that truly changes lives.”

The other finalists in the running for this year’s award are Tees Crisis Triage and Assessment Hub (Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust) and From Streets to Safety: Sheffield’s Section 136 Transformation (Sheffield Health Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust and South Yorkshire Police).
