Trust receives Triangle of Care accreditation STAR 2 from the Carers Trust for community services

The Triangle of Care is a therapeutic alliance between carers, service users and health professionals. It aims to promote safety and recovery and to sustain mental wellbeing by including and supporting carers. It is based on six principles which health and care providers can use to include and support unpaid carers, staff and those receiving care.

The six key standards are:

  • Carers and the essential role they play are identified at first contact, or as soon as possible thereafter.
  • Staff are ‘carer aware’ and trained in carer engagement strategies.
  • Policy and practice protocols re: confidentiality and sharing information are in place.
  • Defined post(s) responsible for carers are in place.
  • A carer introduction to the service is available, with a relevant range of information across the care pathway.
  • A range of carer support services is available.

The Trust is currently a Star 1 Triangle of Care accredited organisation awarded from the Carers Trust for assessing our inpatient services. Over the last year we have been working towards assessment a range of our community services to see to what extent they involved families and carers. We had our assessment for Triangle of Care Star 2 at the end of April and received notice we achieved the accreditation. The Carer Trust wrote:

The panel thoroughly enjoyed learning about the work of SLaM  at your Star 2 Accreditation Panel and reviewing your supporting evidence. The reports were clear, accessible and effectively demonstrated how each standard of the Triangle of Care is being embedded in practice. We appreciated the open discussion and commend the team for their honesty and transparency in acknowledging challenges while maintaining a positive and enthusiastic approach. This was a strong submission in terms of both quality and range of supporting evidence and we wish to extend our thanks and appreciation to all staff and carers involved.

A big well done and thank you to all the teams, carers leads, carers champions and of course the families and carers who contributed.
