The Maudsley Hospital in Camberwell first opened
in 1915, initially as a military hospital and then
in 1923 as a psychiatric hospital.

Visiting by car
From central London: follow the A215 from the Elephant and Castle. The hospital is located on the left hand side of Denmark Hill.
Congestion charge: Maudsley Hospital is not in the London congestion charge zone.
Parking: There is limited parking for visitors at the site which is chargeable. There are designated bays for disabled drivers. Our car park operates using an automatic number plate recognition system. This means cameras record details of all vehicles entering and exiting the car park. You can pay for your parking at one of the payment machines located in the car park, by credit or debit card, contactless, ApplePay, AndroidPay or cash. You can also pay online at www.slamparking.co.uk

By rail: The nearest station is Denmark Hill (Zone 2). From Central London - Blackfriars, Farringdon, St Pancras and Victoria. There are direct connections to Bromley, Orpington, Bexleyheath and Sevenoaks as well as services to north London, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Kent.
Denmark Hill is also connected to London Overground which provides direct services to Clapham Junction and Highbury and Islington.
By underground: The nearest stations are Oval and Elephant and Castle, from there the journey has to be completed by bus or taxi.
By bus: Routes 40, 42, 68 (24 hrs) 176 (24 hrs), 185, 468, 484. Stopping at Camberwell Green (10 minutes away) are 12, 35, 36, 45, 171, 345, 436.
Travelling between Maudsley Hospital and Bethlem Hospital
There is an inter-hospital bus which runs at the following times.
From Bethlem to Maudsley: 7.30am, 9.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm, 3.30pm, 5.30pm
From Maudsley to Bethlem: 8.30am, 10.30am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm, 4.30pm, 6.15pm
The service runs from Monday to Friday only. The journey takes approximately 35 minutes (depending on traffic).
