Chief Nursing Officer for England joins trust to celebrate nurses at its annual Nurses conference

On Thursday 14 November, the Trust celebrated its nursing staff with its annual Nurses Conference.

The day provided an opportunity for nursing colleagues across the trust to come together, share experiences and learn from each other with many speakers sharing a mix of updates of programmes, projects and improvements across the Trust.

Early in the day, four of our nurses – Olisa,  Adedapo, Tessa and Rhoarne – shared the stories of their nursing journey, the importance of persistence and confidence as well as what the knowledge they have gathered in their time at the Trust.

Attendees also heard from Duncan Burton, Chief Nursing Officer for England.  “It was great to spend time with mental health nurses and other colleagues from the trust and discuss the vital role mental health nurses, nursing associates and healthcare support workers have in delivering mental health services." said Duncan. "The conference was also an opportunity to reflect on how important it is for us to look after our own health and wellbeing so we can continue to provide the best possible care to others. Thank you to all those I met and colleagues across the trust for all you do to support service users and their families, your communities and each other.”

Simon Sherring Deputy Director of Nursing   said “The Nurses conference is an annual highlight for us at the Trust. It was a wonderful event and a fantastic opportunity to see so many colleagues coming together to share their experiences and learn more about the future of nursing at the Trust. It was particularly lovely to welcome Duncan Burton as our keynote speaker who was able to see some of the excellent work our nurses do here and  then share words of support and appreciation for nurses and the work they do for the NHS.”

During the remainder of the conference, we heard about updates from the team working on LUCI, the BAME Nurse Development Programme, the Trust's Freedom to Speak Up lead, Southern Railway’s Suicide Prevention plans and much more.
