South East Londoners invited to Suicide Prevention Day event

Launched in July 2021, the South East London Suicide Bereavement Service supports individuals across the boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham, and Southwark who have been affected by suicide. Funded by NHS England through the South East London Integrated Care System, the service is delivered by South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with South East London Mind and Mind in Bexley.

We are inviting South East Londoners to join us for a special online event on World Suicide Prevention Day. The event aims to raise awareness and prevent further loss of life by suicide.

Our virtual event will feature a range of expert speakers from across the mental health sector, including ThriveLDN and Andy’s Man Club. The final speaker will share their personal experience of losing a loved one to suicide. To conclude, our chaplaincy team will lead a service of remembrance for those lost through suicide.

Amy Kirk-Smith, Manager of the South East London Suicide Bereavement Service at South East London Mind (SEL Mind) , explained a little bit about what the service offers:

We aim to normalise people’s reactions, help them understand what they’re feeling and connect them with others.

The invitation comes following recent news of the first national increase in suicide rates since 2018. Rosie Spiegelhalter, South East London Mind’s Director of Development explained:

It’s important to remember that behind every number is a person. We need people to get the help they need when they need it most.
