World Suicide Prevention Conference and Service of Remembrance

Priest at the Day Conference and Service of Remembrance.

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and South East London Mind, together with our partners at Thrive LDN held the fourth annual World Suicide Prevention Day Conference and Service of Remembrance.

Simon Sherring, Deputy Chief Nurse at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust said: “Thank you to all our speakers and attendees for your support in raising awareness of this important topic. This event is important to me for professional reasons and personal reasons and as an organisation we are commited to support Thrive LDN and our partners in our aspiration to make London a zero suicide city.”

Thank you to all our speakers from NHS England, Thrive LDN, South East London Bereavement Suicide Service, South East London and South West London CCG, National Data Guardian, Nicola Bryne. The speakers shared presentations and information on what was being done to support people and staff in the boroughs that we serve.

Special thanks to Richard who shared his powerful story of being bereaved by a suicide in his family.

Chaplains from the Suicide Bereavement Service led an emotive non-denominational service to remember people who died by suicide.

Norman Lamb, Chair, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and Co-Chair of the South London Listens Taskforce said: “This annual event demonstrates the huge amount of partnership work taking place across London on suicide prevention and reduction.

“It is vital that we continue to work together to learn from each other and support vulnerable people in our communities living with mental-ill health and prevent people from becoming unwell. I am immensely grateful for everyone who is involved in preventing suicide across our capital city.”

South London and Maudsley launched a ‘Letter of Hope’ to mark World Suicide Prevention Day. The Letter of Hope is to remind anyone who may be feeling suicidal that they are not alone, and support is available. Read the Letter of Hope.

Thrive LDN partnered with Zero Suicide Alliance, who have created a training program to help people to be able to identify warning signs and to feel comfortable having conversations about suicide.
