30 Sep 2026 00:00Inclusion Criteria
For participants with MCI/dementia:
(1) More than 60 years old
(2) MCI: concern regarding a change in cognition, impairment in one or more cognitive domains including memory, executive function, attention, language, and visuospatial skills, preservation of independence in functional abilities, not demented as described in National Institute on Aging and Alzheimer’s Association (NIA-AA) diagnostic guidelines
(3) Mild dementia: As described in NIA-AA research framework, mild dementia is defined as substantial progressive cognitive impairment affecting several domains, and/or neurobehavioral disturbance. Documented by the individual’s report or by observer (e.g., study partner) report or by change on longitudinal cognitive testing. Clearly evident functional impact on daily life, affecting mainly instrumental activities. No longer fully independent/requires occasional assistance with daily life activities
(4) Access to an electronic device(smartphone/computer/tablet) and the internet
(5) Be able and willing to give informed consent to participate by signing the Consent Form
For study partner:
Each participant will be asked to identify an adult study partner (aged 18+) if possible. This would be someone who knows them well and spends time with them frequently, such as a partner, family member or close friend.
Exclusion Criteria
For participants with MCI/dementia:
(1)Current active or past significant experience with meditation
(2)Clinically significant mental or physical health disorders beyond MCI or dementia, that can impact cognition and / or ability to complete the study (e.g. severe depression, suicidality, Psychosis, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression or other major psychiatric diagnosis, social anxiety (difficulty with being in a classroom situation), severe impairments in eyesight, hearing or upper limb motor movements)
(3)Inability to commit to attending classes (if someone is going to miss three or more classes)
(4)Moderate or severe dementia
(5)Currently involved in any other interventional research
For study partner:
Study partners who are younger than 18 will be excluded.
