UNITE: Investigating neurodegeneration using ultra-low-field MRI in older adults from memory services

Overview

WORRIED ABOUT MEMORY LOSS?

Are you interested in taking part in our new portable brain scan?

Do you want to further our understanding of dementia to help work towards better care?

About the study
Our study aims to validate the use of a new portable magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner by comparing its brain scans to those obtained from conventional MRI scanners. The Hyperfine scanner, which is more affordable and portable, has the potential to revolutionise neuroimaging. This pilot study will test whether the ultra-low field MRI can effectively detect differences in brain anatomy in patients seen at memory clinics.
Participants will undergo one additional portable MRI scan in addition to their standard MRI scan. Each scan, including preparation and scanning, will take approximately 60 to 90 minutes. Scans will be conducted at the Centre for Neuroimaging Sciences at King’s College London or Kent and Medway Medical School, depending on where participants are initially seen.

Who are we looking to recruit?
We are seeking individuals who have been referred for an MRI scan as part of their usual clinical care at a memory clinic. Participants should be comfortable undergoing MRI scans. You need to be over 18 years old and suitable for brain scan.

Rewards & Expenses:
Participants will receive £10 for their time. Additionally, refreshments will be provided during the scanning sessions.

If you are suitable you’ll be contacted by a member of the team. You will attend the Centre for Neuroimaging at King’s College London or Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust in Canterbury.  We will compensate you for your time and provide refreshments.
