CAMHS Enhanced Treatment Service

How our service can help you

How our service can help you

The Enhanced Treatment Service (ETS) supports young people aged 12-18 who live in Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham or Southwark, and is part of the National and Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health services.  We help when someone needs more support than their local CAMHS team can offer, or when they are moving back home after spending time in hospital.

We were set up to:

  • Give young people another option instead of going into hospital
  • Help young people settle back into the community after being in hospital
  • Support young people who need more intensive help than what Tier 3 CAMHS can provide
  • Reduce self-harm and suicidal thoughts Improve how young people and families feel about their care
  • Offer short-term, focused therapy and support
  • Provide day treatment and outreach support at home or in the community

Our team includes many different professionals, and we work with schools, social services and other community teams to help each young person recover.

Outcomes

The outcomes we aim for

We want young people to:
  • Be less likely to need hospital care again
  • Feel more confident settling back into the community
  • Have fewer episodes of self-harm or suicidal thoughts
  • Become more independent (for example, travelling or shopping alone)
  • Re-engage with school or college
  • Have better family relationships
  • Feel more satisfied with their care

Care Options

When we receive a referral, we arrange an assessment. This may happen:

  • At home
  • In the community
  • With other professionals
  • On an inpatient ward
  • At the ETS hub

We ask about your experiences and needs and we work with you and your family to understand what support will help most. You must agree to take part in the assessment and in ETS support.

After the assessment, we explain what will happen next and the plan for your care.

Types of Care

  • Intensive Case Management: You will have a care co-ordinator and support worker(s) who help you access treatment and service
  • Home Treatment: Staff can visit you at home to provide practical or psychological support
  • Day Treatment: A structured programme with 1:1 sessions and groups like art, sensory sessions, cooking, DBT groups and parent groups.
  • Education Support: You can access the Bethlem and Maudsley Hospital School if you need help with education.
  • Outreach Work: Staff can meet you in the community or on the ward
