Eden Ward

How our service can help you

Eden Ward Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is in Lambeth Hospital. We provide low secure, psychiatric hospital care for men, aged 18-65, who have severe and ongoing mental health problems. We care for people who live in the London Borough of Lambeth.

Our team includes health and social care staff from a range of professions. We provide assessments, treatment and intensive nursing care.

A small number of people are brought to hospital under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act. This is a power that police officers can use if someone is in a public place and the police have concerns about them. We have a separate, designated place of safety, a '136 Suite' (Place of Safety), where they can be admitted, assessed and cared for. The police also have powers under the Mental Capacity Act to take someone, either from a public place or their home, to a place of safety - normally this would be to an Emergency Department.
