Delivering together: patient focus, learning and culture
During May’s Board Meeting, we took a closer look at the work happening across the Trust and how it is shaping the care we deliver to patients every day. What stood out is the collective effort behind this work - teams across the organisation working with focus and determination to ensure we remain patient-focused and committed to continuous improvement, despite increased pressure.
Learning, transparency and continuous improvement
We listened to a presentation on ‘Lessons Learned’, which included learning from incidents and deaths. It is a vital measure of the safety of the care we deliver but also how we learn. The work we are doing around learning from incidents and deaths is critically important. Being open and transparent - acknowledging when things do not go as planned - is fundamental to improving patient safety and care quality. Initiatives such as the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) are helping us to understand where we are performing well and where further development is needed.
We must continue to build on this by ensuring that learning is not confined to individual teams, but is shared, embedded and acted upon across the whole organisation. Turning insight into action is what drives meaningful improvement.
White Ribbon accreditation
The Board has verbally approved our reaccreditation in support of the White Ribbon campaign, reaffirming our commitment as an organisation to ending men’s violence against women and girls in all its forms. The campaign reflects our core values of kindness and respect, and we are committed to tackling the root causes of men’s violence against women and girls. These cultural commitments are not separate from our organisational priorities; they are fundamental to achieving the best possible outcomes for both our patients and our staff.
In the coming months, we plan to communicate and introduce more ways of being involved, getting training, speaking up and supporting our workforce, patients and communities to do what they can in support of this campaign.
Strong governance and looking ahead
Finally, I want to highlight the importance of strong governance. I can confirm that all Board members have met the requirements of the annual Fit and Proper Person Test. This ensures that we continue to uphold the highest standards of leadership, accountability and integrity.
As we look ahead, we do so with a continued commitment to learning, supporting our people and strengthening our culture.
Thank you once again for your dedication, your professionalism and your unwavering commitment to our patients.
