SLaM and Oxleas Chairs impressed by progress at pioneering 24/7 Mental Health Centre on joint visit

Service Manager Sarah Moodie shares details of the exciting refurbishment now underway at Heather Close for the new 24/7 Mental Health Centre, with SLaM Chair, Jane Bailey and Oxleas Chair, Professor Andrew George.
During a recent visit to the Lewisham 24/7 Community Mental Health Centre , Professor Andrew George, Chair of Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, and Jane Bailey, Chair of S outh London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, were impressed and inspired by the progress of the new service, its early impact, and planned next steps .
The Lewisham 24/7 Community Mental Health Centre - currently based at Southbrook Road, Lee Green, is one of six national pilot sites supported by NHS England , which is testing new approaches to integrated community mental health care .
With a multi-disciplinary team now located together under one roof , supported by voluntary and community partners , staff highlighted h ow new approaches are already helping improve access to timely mental health support and enabl ing service users and carers to be more involve d in the planning and delivery of their care .
The Centre will move to its permanent home at Heather Close, Hither Green in Spring 2026 . Staff shared plans for the refurbishment work currently underway , which is being funded by the Maudsley Charity , to repurpose a former SLaM facility there.
Both Chairs were impressed by the achievements to date and vision for the future. They discussed how the learning and innovations emerging from the Centre could inform and inspire wider transformation across services in South London.
Reaffirming their shared commitment to collaboration, Professor George and Ms Bailey highlighted the importance of continuing to exchange learning and best practice between Oxleas and S outh London & Maudsley , to improve outcomes for service users and carers.
