Celebrating success at RCPsych Awards 2024

Staff at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust are celebrating after their colleagues’ success at the highly esteemed Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) Awards 2024 which celebrate excellence and innovation, highlighting the best and brightest teams and individuals in psychiatry, was announced. 

Following the announcement of the shortlisted nominees in September, the winners were confirmed at a special ceremony on November 7, 2024.  

Among the winners were a number of Trust staff: 

  • Professor Fiona Goughran, Director of Research and Development and Lead Consultant Psychiatrist of the National Psychosis Service, Dr Raj Mohan, a consultant psychiatrist in forensic rehabilitation services and Professor Derek Tracy, the Trust’s incoming Chief Medical Officer were each awarded the President’s Medal, a prestigious award which is given annually to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the profession.
  • Dr Toby Pillinger, an Academic Clinical Lecturer based at The Maudsley Hospital and King's College London was awarded the Early Career Academic Researcher of the Year
  • And the highlight of the awards was the Lifetime Achievement Award, which was given to Professor Janet Treasure OBE, a Professor at King’s College London and a Consultant Psychiatrist at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. She has been involved in the training of medical practitioners, psychologists and clinical academics.  

Congratulating the winners and nominees, Sir Norman Lamb, Chair of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, said:  "It’s truly inspiring to see the exceptional work of our staff being recognised by the RCPsych Awards. These awards and nominations reflect not only their professional expertise but also their commitment to innovation and patient care. The recognition of our staff for their pioneering work—whether in digital mental health, research, or clinical practice—is a proud moment for the entire Trust. Congratulations to all our nominees, and I look forward to celebrating their continued achievements. "
