Ground investigation works at Lambeth Hospital begin
In preparation for redevelopment of the current Lambeth Hospital site , ground investigation works, such as surveys and soil sampling, will take place this January.
Ground investigation works will take place Monday 13 January to Friday 24 January 2025. They could continue after these dates depending on the weather.
To minimise noise disruption for patients, staff, and our neighbours, works will occur Monday to Friday during daylight hours (8:30 AM–4:30 PM) only.
Barriers will be erected around work areas, and equipment will be securely fenced when not in use.
The redevelopment of current Lambeth Hospital site is part of our £186m modernisation programme enabling us to deliver world-class mental health care in state-of-the-art facilities.
Starting in March, the wards currently at Lambeth Hospital will be moving to New Douglas Bennett House next to Maudsley Hospital in Denmark Hill.
The brand new state-of-the-art building has been co-designed by staff, patients, and carers and features safety landscaped outdoor spaces, modern therapy rooms and a greatly improved environment for service users to recover, and staff to work.

The redevelopment of the Lambeth Hospital site will generate funds to reinvest in hospital and community facilities, while transforming the site into new housing, including affordable homes, boosting the local economy and supporting businesses.
The Trust is actively seeking investors to lead the site’s redevelopment. Once an investor is secured, further updates on plans and next steps will be shared.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this time.
