Cannabis Use in Early Adolescence
Overview
We want to hear young people aged 13–15 experiences of using cannabis. Most research focuses on older teenagers, so we know much less about how younger teenager think about cannabis, what influences their choices to use cannabis and how it fits into their everyday lives.
In this study, you’ll be invited to share your experiences in an interview with a researcher. What you tell us will help shape future guidance, education and support for young people who use cannabis or who may be thinking about trying it.
What will it involve?
Before the interview, a researcher will have a brief discussion with you to check you’re able to take part and answer any questions. You will also complete a short form about yourself and a consent form. Usually, your parent or guardian needs to give consent for you to take part. In some situations, young people can give their own consent if they fully understand the study. If you think this might apply to you, please speak with the research team so we can talk this through with you.
You’ll take part in an interview lasting around 45 minutes with a researcher. This can happen online via MS Teams (audio, video, chat), by phone or in person at King’s College London. What you share in the interview is confidential unless the researcher is worried about your safety or someone else’s safety.
Who are we looking to recruit?
We’re looking to speak to young people aged 13–15 who use cannabis regularly now (at least once a week) or used it regularly in the past year.
