Anti-Racism Action Plan

Our Anti-Racism Action Plan

In our strategy, Aiming High; Changing Lives , we set our ambition to be known for our action on anti-racism. We recognise that fulfilling this ambition requires transformational change from within our organisation and we must embed anti-racism in all that we do to ensure better experiences for our staff, service users and their carers and our communities.

We know we have a long way to go to achieve this.

Five key areas of action

Together with staff, service users, carers and members of the wider community, we have created the Anti-Racism Action Plan to build on good work that is in place already.

We have identified five key areas of action:

  1. Workforce – to ensure that our Trust is an equitable place of work for Ethnically and Culturally Diverse members of staff, specifically our Black colleagues
  2. Service Delivery (PCREF) – through our Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework (PCREF) approach, we will eliminate the unacceptable racial disparity of Black communities and improve their trust and confidence in our mental health services
  3. Communication and Engagement – to ensure that our imagery and language is reflective of the people that we serve and to involve Ethnically and Culturally Diverse members of our community in the development of services. This in turn builds trust and better relationships with our communities. Research - to break down barriers and access to research for Ethnically and Culturally Diverse communities
  4. Work with the Police – to improve the experience of our service users by improving relations between the Trust, the police, the community and acute sector partners to reduce police time with service users and specifically reduce the use of S136
