The Lewisham 24/7 Community Mental Health Centre
Our 24/7 community mental health centre is a place where we want people to feel welcome, safe and valued.
It is for those who use our services and their carers, who are supported by our team in north central Lewisham (find out more here).
In 2024, Lewisham was one of six places in England that were selected by NHS England to develop a new approach to caring for people with mental health needs in the community.
Right now, our Centre is located at Southbrook Road in Lewisham but in the Spring our team will be moving to an improved centre at Heather Close, Hither Green (find out more about our plans here).
The centre is aimed at those who are users of our community mental health services in North Central Lewisham.
The Lewisham 24/7 Community Mental Health Centre is an exciting new approach to mental health care that we are trialling in north central Lewisham, which aims to deliver support when and where people need it.
Guided by our Ten Core Principles , we’ve made some important changes to improve how we work and the services we offer . This is already making a positive and important difference for service users and carers .
Making sure people feel included has been very important to us while we design and plan this new centre and how we improve our care for people. We are very grateful to those service users and carers who have shared their ideas and experiences with us - and still do so. They have helped by taking part in many meetings, discussions and workshops which has helped us develop and improve our plans. Here is a selection of some of the comments we’ve received and below some real-life stories from those we support:
Katrina is a service user who has generously shared her time, wisdom and insight by experience with us to help us develop the approach to care we are using at our 24/7 Centre.
Involved: “I have been involved with the pilot scheme since it was first discussed. A small group of staff plus myself met with NHS England and put our proposal forward. We were awarded £2.5 million to trial a new model of adult community mental health care!"
Heard: “It felt good to be heard and taken seriously. I felt that the space was safe enough for me to open up about my own experiences with mental health and the treatment I received.”
Equal: “I have been treated like a colleague and as an individual. Having a service user involved has allowed them to look at the pilot from every angle.”
Proud: “I feel proud to represent service users in Lewisham and the community. It has been incredible watching the pilot grow and I am very excited for the future of it.”
We are very grateful to all our funding partners who are significantly investing in the development of the Lewisham Mental Health Centre and our new model of care, including:
