Tier 2 Training Options

Duration: Four days over weeks (9.30am to 4.30pm).

During the course - Please note that attending the course does not guarantee certification at the end of it. During the course you need to be demonstrating your knowledge and confidence in learning disability and autism and actively participate in discussions and activities. During the 4 days, trainers will be observing all trainees and if there are any concerns they will approach individuals to ensure I further support might be needed.

Following the course - Trainers will submit the names of those successfully completing the course to NHS England. They will be in touch with letters and certificates confirming the status of each trainee.

Tier 2 Training Partnership – a movement to gold standard training

Our training is delivered as a strategic alliance between the Estia Centre who deliver the learning disability content of the training and the National Autistic Society who deliver the autism content. This collaboration is at the heart of our mission to build a movement grounded in compassion and lived experience.

Our deliberate fusion of specialist knowledge and unparalleled experience allows us to deliver the gold standard in Oliver McGowan Tier 2 Lead Trainer training. Through our lead trainer training, you will build the internal capacity, expertise, and confidence that is essential for effectively delivering all the Tier 2 Oliver's Training options.

About the National Autistic Society 

The National Autistic Society have been involved in Oliver's training since 2020 when they were a consortia organisation for the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Trial (OMMT) on Learning Disability and Autism and a lead organisation in the development of Tier 2 materials and delivery of the four-day Lead Trainer training. The National Autistic Society lead on delivering the learning disability content of Oliver's Training.

Target audience

This training is for health and social care professionals with a training background and experience in learning disability and autism. The course is open for booking by any professional in the health and social care sector.

Become an Approved Lead Trainer

Completing this four-day course qualifies delegates as Approved Trainers for The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training (subject to a quality assurance process). This certification enables you to train others—including facilitating trainers and co-trainers—to deliver Oliver’s Training to the health and care workforce.

The four days of training are delivered face-to-face in locations across England and are structured over two weeks. The first two consecutive days focus on learning disability, with the following two consecutive days in the second week dedicated to autism.
